April Morning Glory

I was ready to hang up my skis for a while, and then it got cold and started snowing early Sunday morning, April 1. By Tuesday morning, Rendezvous Bowl Plot had received up to 15" of new snow. And the overnight low was 6 degrees. I could barely sleep on Monday night.

I was on Teton Pass at 7:30 am on Tuesday and it WAS a Glorious moring. Sunny, calm, and cold. And the parking lot was almost full. Everyone had the same idea. There wouldn't be too many more days like this.

The lighting was beautiful on the way up and even on the ridge, the wind was very light. A pleasant walk indeed. On the way up I kept pushing my pole into the snow. It was soft and deep. At least 15 inches and more in places.

I looked down Glory bowl and it looked pefect. I was very tempted to go down there, but I wanted to get as many runs as possible before the sun started ruining this perfect powder. Instead of Glory Bowl, I skied down Snowshoe Bowl. It was almost perfect. The snow was about 12-15 inches deep, but you could feel the icey base underneath once in a while. I put an uptrack in near the bottom of the bowl back up to the ridge and skied the bowl 5 times. After the first run, I didn't even notice the crust underneath. Just skied a litte faster to keep the Verdicts floating on top.

I skied out on Second turn and by the time I reached the road, the snow was starting to melt. A perfect spring morning. I could use just one more.
