This is a heartbreak movie about chasing powder and just missing it. The crucial turn was Rock Springs, WY.
The smarter Core went north and hit it big. The storm hit the Tetons and missed the Wasatch.
The dumber Core went to the Wasatch, but the storm completely missed there. Unfortunately, they had no choice: they purchased plane tickets.
Bottom line: Never buy plane tickets based on a forecast. Always drive; you have more options.

Foam-Core: The movie
Foam Core: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly
The following movies cover three major backcountry ski areas: Teton Pass, Wyoming; Selkirk Lodge, BC; and Red Mountain Pass Colorado. I have devised my own avalanche danger rating system for these three areas:
I rate Teton Pass "Good." It's a relatively safe place to ski. Very user-friendly terrain, and lovely bowl skiing in world class powder.
I rate the Selkirk Mountains "Bad." The Selkirk Mountains have very BIG terrain, big relief, big glaciers, and big avalanches. When they have avalanches up there, whole groups can be buried.
I'm sorry, but I have to rate Red Mountain Pass "Ugly." I don't recommend that you ski at Red Mountain Pass, but if you do, you better have a beacon, a shovel, and a probe, and you better know how to use them. Wouldn't hurt to have life insurance too.

Run Like Bastards: Part I
Interviews with people who have been caught in avalanches.
Run Like Bastards: Part II
Avalanche footage and some great skiing in avalanche terrain. All skiers live to tell their tales. They are VERY lucky.
