I have long been a Teton Pass Cam junky, sometimes to the point of obession. But it's a harmless habit, and who knows, maybe WYDOT will give an award from the most hits from one IP address and I'll win a new pair of Black Diamond Killowatts.

I was starting to think the ski season was over in the Tetons. It's warm in the valleys and the snow is melting fast. As a result, you have to walk farther and farther to get to snow.

Last week, it was cloudy and not quite warm enough to get the corn cycle going. But the forecast for the weekend was for hot, sunny weather. I got out my maps and planned out a route I've been wanting to do on Mount Albright. After printing a map and loading up my gear, I was too keyed up to sleep well. I woke up at 3:30am and looked out the window. Clear sky. Then I checked the station on top of Rendezvous. The temp was right at freezing! And the stations near the bottom of the mountain were around 37 degrees. Not a good sign. |

One of the purposes of this web site, in addition to posting ski news, equipment reviews, tips, and ski conditions, was to create an online backcountry ski guidebook with route descriptions, pictures of routes and skiing, and detailed maps. On March 4, I received several threatening, hateful emails from 3 Wolf Creek Pass locals. The reason for the email is that three or 4 locals (supposedly more but only 4 wrote email) are outraged that I had published backcountry ski route information on "their" personal ski area on the North side of Wolf Creek Pass. This article is my response. |
