Day 32 – Mail Cabin

Distance: 2.66 miles

Vertical: 1090'

Winds were blowing 40-60 miles per hour this morning, but we decided to go take a look in Mail Cabin. Mail Cabin is usually sheltered from the wind, but when it gusts to 60, nothing is sheltered. And it wasn’t a localized wind: the whole range is blown out.

We climbed up to 8100′, but the winds were blowing so hard, we were worried about a tree falling on us. We skied back to the drainage. The snow was heavy, upside down, and windblown. Bad snow. Dangerous wind. Get out before you get hurt. Worst day of skiing this season.
