Targhee reported 5 inches today. More like 2-3 inches. I keep a ruler on my desk to remind me what an inch looks like. Based on that report, we went to the west slope high country. A bit disappointing.
What we found was about 2-3 inches of new snow on top of an unbreakable wind slab. It didn’t seem to matter if we were on a north or south aspect: the snow was the same. It’s impressive how the last wind / storm has created a ubiquitous wind slab on all but the most sheltered locations.
But it was a lovely bluebird day and we found untracked snow and we were alone the whole day except for the exit and re-entry to Targhee.
