Day 42 – Mail Cabin Trees

Distance: 6.2 miles

Vertical: 2100'

The storm is here and it’s snowing and blowing like gale. Almost white out conditions. I headed for some north facing trees and found shelter from the storm. I walked out of strong wind and horizontal snow into a calm, quiet forest with snowing falling straight down and knee deep snow. The top 600′ was perfect deep snow. Below that, I could feel the melt crust from the very warm temps the week before.

I came out close to the Coal Creek parking lot, but still had to cross the stream. I found a large snow bridge. Half of it fell into the steam as I crossed it, but I got across without getting wet.
