Day 68 – Avalanche Danger High

Distance: 5.8 miles

Vertical: 3438'

A powerful storm system has been streaming into the Tetons since Sunday. Teton Pass has been closed for various times on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. The avalanche danger has been pegged out on high since Monday and the avalanche forecast says, “Travel in avalanche terrain is not recommended.”

Not recommended, but hard to resist. This morning the Pass was open, so we decided to go for the Fruit Bowl. Park on the pass, hike for 10 minutes, and start skiing. From the first turn, it was perfect snow. Deep and easy to ski.

We broke trail into Fruit bowl. That’s a rare occurrence. Plus we got to ski the 3, 900′ main lines down the bowl before anyone else got a track in. A perfect day of knee deep powder.
