I finally got the urge to try some spring skiing. It’s not something I crave; once the powder is gone, so is my enthusiasm for skiing. But Wednesday looked like a perfect day for spring skiing, predicted to be warm and calm.
Went went up to Grand Targhee. That’s about where the snow line was. I like my spring skiing where I can put on boots and skis and start climbing.
We climbed to the summit of Fred’s Mountain. The snow surface was smooth and had about an inch of new frozen snow. By the time we reached the summit, it was softening up nicely. We skied down a south-west aspect for about 1500′.
It was very good so we climbed back to the summit for another run.
