Day 8 – Black Canyon

Distance: 6.7 miles

Vertical: 2700'

Rating: 10 Hero Snow, 6.7 Miles, 2,700′ Vertical

Decided I wanted some fruit this morning. Low hanging fruit that is. Teton Pass has plenty, but you have to start early on a Saturday. I got to the Pass parking lot at 7:45 and there were about 3 spots left. Most skiers, of course, had gone up Glory.

I headed up Mount Elly and was totally alone. On the way, I looked at Olympia bowl. It was wind blown so I kept going. A nice calm morning. Must have been a cold, calm night too because the new snow was very light and dry.

The big bowl heading into Black Canyon looked perfect. No tracks and about a foot of light powder on a firm  base.

1000′ of hero snow. Best conditions I’ve had on that bowl and very good coverage for December 1.

Then I headed up to do Yo Yo bowl. The snow was even better and a bit deeper. I did four laps on that and then ran out of gas.
