Day 14 – Kicking the Dragon

Distance: 6.4 miles

Vertical: 3000'

Because the sun has crusted all the southerly aspects, we are left with dragon balls, eg, northerly aspects. Not a good choice in these dangerous conditions.

Dragon Balls, the bowl, already has a reputation as a bowl that slides. In fact, the upper, very northerly part of it already released naturally and slid all the way to drainage.

We approached it from the top and skied a line that I’ve never seen slide. But that means nothing in these conditions.

The snow was OK, but things are getting pretty stale 8 days since the last storm. Another problem with this bowl is the uptrack. You have to cut across the lower slope to get back up. Everything worked out, but as I was breaking the trail, I decided it was time to take a break, let things heal.
