Due to lack of new snow and very warm temps, we decided to do a long tour. The only way to know what’s going on is to sample some snow.
The climb out of the valley was discouraging. Almost no new snow and a rain crust. As we got higher, the conditions improved a bit.
There was about 8″ of new snow at 8500′, but all of it had a very thin rain crust. The crust did not affect the skiing…much. We called it Hero Crust. Overall, it was a pretty good day of skiing.
