10 days with no new snow. The snow on all the popular bowls is tracked up, the southerly aspects are crusted, and the powder caches hidden in sheltered north facing gullies require a big tour to reach them.
We decided for a big tour to a place I’ve been only once in the winter. It was a calm and sunny day with temps in the mid 20s. We skinned 4 miles and 2000′ up a snowmobile track to get to the base of the route.
After a nice food break in the sun, we broke trail for 2000′ to the Sheep Creek Peak ridge and the start of Sheep Chute.
The snow was dense, stiff powder and very fun to ski. Thanks to the dense powder covering the valley floor, the four mile ski out was not bad and took only 30 minutes.
