Day 5 – In Your Face

Distance: 5.5 miles

Vertical: 2170'

If you don’t go, you don’t know. Today proved how true that is.

There was no prediction of new snow until yesterday afternoon, and the prediction was not inspiring: 2-3″. The Pass got around 3-5″, depending on the wind loading. I intended to go for a walk and did not expect any great skiing.

But I was pleasantly surprised when I got to the top of In Your Face Bowl and found it untracked with about 5″ on light snow on a firm crust.

Nothing like a 1,200′ decent on an untracked slope to make my day. I was the only one there. Perfect.

Also, it was nice to see this south facing bowl so well covered. Despite the lack of snow, the base coverage is pretty good.
